Vista Ultimate (non-SP1) - Workstation 6.0.2 build 59824 networking issue

Hi, when ever I connect or disconnect the guest bridged or private network interface the host network connection gets reset as well. This forces all other network dependent applications running on my host to lose their state. Has anyone experienced this? any solutions?

ps. Guests are Win2k3 SP2 and WinXP Pro SP2.

I haven't seen this, but have you tried NAT?

Bridged requires that VMware Alias your nic, (obtain multiple IPs

on one nic). Some Nics don't do well with this, especially wireless

nics. NAT solves all this, but does force the vm to a different subnet.

But what is your host OS?

For Windows 2003 SP2 there are known issues:

Try to disable TCP chimney and DisableDOS on host OS.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/945977

1. Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.

2. At the command prompt, type:

Netsh int ip set chimney DISABLED

3. Press the ENTER key.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/898468/en-us

1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.

2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanManServer\Parameters

3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.

4. Type DisableDos for the name of the DWORD value, and then press ENTER.

5. Right-click DisableDos, and then click Modify.

6. In the Value data box, type 1 to disable denial of service attack detection, and then click OK.

7. Quit Registry Editor.

For XP host there are other issues with advanced host NIC settings (disable Offloading, Jumbo frames, ... and so on).
