Virtual-Printer.exe is no valid Win32 Application

Hello,

I have Workstation Pro Version 15 running on my Windows 10 machine. To get Word 2003 running for my father I have Windows XP running as a virtual machine. Everything works very nice. I just want to use now a virtual printer to be able to print from Word in XP to the printer installed on Win 10.

I guess I made all right and enabled virtual printing. I also included the VirtualPrinter-Windows.iso file located under (windows 10)/Program(x86)/VMware/VMware Workstation into the virtual CD drive. But when I try to run Virtual-Printer-1.1.1-1497806.exe the XP tells me that this is not a valid application.

Is the exe an application just for Win 10 or higher? I have some doubts, The XP has service packs 1,2 and 3 installed.

Can it be that I need an older version of Virtual-Printer.exe?

So what do I have to do to get my Win 10 printer somehow in my XP.? By the way: VMware Workstation shows my a printer available (the status bar below the real XP window) and I can connect. At least it tells "connected"

Best Regards
Erwin

It appears that virtual printing only supports Windows 7 and later (at least that's what searching the forums suggests). So the only way to print from XP would be to share the printer on the host, and then connect from XP to the host as a shared printer (note that you would have to enable SMB 1 server in Control Panel → Programs and Features → Turn Windows Features On and Off).

However, if you just want to use Word 2003, you really shouldn't need a VM for that - while not officially supported, it works just fine on Windows 10.
