I copied a Workstation 5.x virtual machine to a new PC which has VMware Workstation, Version: 6.5.0 build-118166 installed. VMware Workstation 6.5.0 powers on the 5.x virtual machine just fine. But when it comes to powering off (shutting down or restarting) the 5.x virtual machine (Guest OS) the virtual machine Fails to Power Down and Stops at a Black Screen.
VMware Workstation 6.5.0 build-118166
Guest OS: Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition
Guest Virtual Machine Version: Workstation 5.x
What is your Host OS?
Please attach the vmware.log and .vmx files from the directory containing your Guest.
I'm wondering if your Guest is hosted off a "slow" USB drive and has a lot of RAM allocated to it? If that's the case, and you're running a Windows Host, putting the following line in the config.ini file for VMware Workstation might help:
mainMem.useNamedFile = "FALSE"
VMware Workstation 6.5.0 build-118166
Also, Workstation 6.5.1 has been out for a while. Might want to consider installing the upgrade.
