Virtual Hardware Version 14 on VMware Workstation Pro 17

I have a Host: VMware ESXi, 7.0.3, 19193900 with a virtual machine version: ESXi 6.7 or later (virtual machine version 14) that I want to export and import into VMware Workstation Pro 17.

According to this article it is possible

https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/1003746

However, VMware ESXi, 7.0 U3 is not listed on VMware Workstation Pro 17 compatible products.

Since public available information is not clear I want to confirm if this is possible or not.

The virtual hardware version you have configured in the VM you have running in ESXi is what's relevant when considering transferring it to Workstation, not the version of ESXi it the VM is running on.

If you're running a VM on ESXi with virtual hardware version 14, that will run on Workstation 17.

You can confirm that virtual hardware version 14 is supported. In the wizard that you posted, if you click on the drop-down that currently says "ESXi 7.0", then you will see an entry for "Workstation 14.x". That will generate a virtual machine with virtual hardware version 14 according to https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/1003746 Then look in the .vmx file to make sure that the virtual hardware version is set to 14.
