Video driver issue in W7 VM running on VMware Workstation 14

We too have an issue with a  Windows 7 VM , in this case, running on Windows 10 host.  This is VMware workstation 14.1.1.

We did  have, of course, a Malawarbytes problem, but an update from them has sorted that memory hog.

Coming to the machine it reports it cannot add another monitor when there is only one on the system anyway.

Hitting the "full screen mode" eventually sorts it but it needed lots of clicking to clear dialog boxes.

The VM was bashing the processor during this process so something was taking it  to  100%

The actual message in the dialogues dialogue box is.....

"The virtual machine could not be changed to the selected monitor layout.

If you just added a monitor to the host computer, you must power off power on the virtual machine to use that monitor"

This monitor has been used with this base machine and this virtual machine for the last 2 years!!

It only seems to happen after the machine has been left to sit by itself with the screen going off for a while.

Could this be a screensaver issue?

Any other suggestions?
