The gho image probably was created on a physical machine using IDE-disks.
A XP-system will almost never boot inside a VM when you configure the VM to use IDE-disks.
Here is what to do:
change the disk controller to LSIlogic SCSI while the VM is powered off
next launch VMware Converter and use the option "Configure VM" and select the vmx-file (with the LSI-scsi-controller)
that should adjust the drivers inside the VM.
Caveat: dont know if latest Converter still supports XP-64
If not - pick the oldest Converter version that you can find.
