VMware workstation 6.5.3 on Windows XP throws a "File not found: " error

I received a VMware image of a windows 2003 server running on a Windows Vista host.

This VM does not run on my VMware workstation 6.5.3 on Windows XP.

It throws an error

"File not found: Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition-cl1-000002-s001.vmdk

This file is required to power on this virtual machine. If this file was moved, please provide its new location."

I have attached my vmx file

Any advice or suggestions, please?

Thank you,

That file is part of the snapshot of a disk. It's not there, so the disk is incomplete and cannot be used. Did you delete/move it accidentally?

The file is there... It was not moved or deleted

I copied the file name from the message and performed a "dir" command to verify

VMware does not appear to like the file, even though it is there.

One thing I did notice was that in the VMX file, this disk was marked as scsi0:0, and using LSILogic

In all the other VMs that I have, I only have ide type disks

vmware.log is from a start when the VM was fine ????

from your filelisting

Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition-cl1-000002-s002.vmdk

but this does not match the error you posted.

Please check this again

Yes, vmware.log is from when the VM was working fine

The error I get in the UI is: "

File not found: Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition-cl1-000002-s001.vmdk

This file is required to power on this virtual machine. If this file was moved, please provide its new location.

"

(attached vmerr.jpg)

The file you requested was: "Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition-cl1-000002.vmdk"

That's what I attached

Did you want another file, continuum? Kindly, let me know

the error-message makes no sense - a different file is missing - why do you send vmware.log from good start - I need the actual one where you get the eror

That's the thing continuum. The vmware.log file does not get updated or a new one does not get generated.

It appears that it is missing a different file than what the error message is mentioning.

It appears to me that we are missing: "Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition-cl1-000002-s002.vmdk"

However the message states another file -

At least you got me thinking about the missing file. I'll try to fetch that file and retry and let you know

Thanks for your suggestions, continuum
