VMware Workstation with Windows + Fedora

Hi all!

I'm new in this world of virtual machines and so I'm not very good configurating them...

The reason why I'm writhing this post is quite simple: I've a computer with two HDs, one that runs Windows (at the moment I'm trying 7 RC) and another with Fedora 10; I'd like to start in a virtual machine the linux partition meanwhile I'm using Windows, but I can't!

I think I'm doing something wrong in the configuration of a new virtual machine, but I don't know what... Now I'll list all the step I'm doing hoping there's someone that's able to catch where I'm wrong!

1) Click on "New virtual machine"

2) Select the "Custom (advanced)" type of configuration

3) Select "Workstation 6.5" as a virtual machine hardware compatibility

4) Select "I wish to install the operating sistem later"

5) Select "Linux" as a guest OS and "Red Hat Linux" as a version (I'm not shure it's correct, but I can't find anything regarding Fedora a part from that)

6) Choose the VM name and location

7) Select one processor

😎 Set 1024 mb as memory for this VM

9) Select "Use network address translation (NAT)"

10) Select "BusLogic (Recomanded)" as SCSI adapter

11) Select "Use a phisical disk"

1 2) Select the HD I whant to use

13) Give a name to the disk

14) Run the VM

Thanks for your help and sorry if I've been a bit to long in this post!

Still no answers... maybe this VMware is not so good, it could be a problem of the software...

I think I'll try to use another program, does anyone knows something else that could work better?

You are runnign workstation in an unsupported Host OS (Windows 7), trying to run an unsupported Guest OS (Fedora)

Did you read any of the documentation?

http://www.vmware.com/support/pubs/ws_pubs.html

Supported Host OS is only as high as 203 at present with experimental 2008 support (may change with WS 7 perhaps):

http://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/search.php?action=search&deviceCategory=software&advancedORbasic=advanced&maxDisplayRows=50&key=&productId=3&gos_vmw_product_release[]=-1&datePosted=-1&os_bits=-1&os_use[]=17&os_family[]=4&os_name[]=-1&os_type[]=-1&rorre=0

Fedora 10 is unsupported as a guest OS - Fedora 11 only has experimental support so far:

https://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/search.php?action=search&devieCategory=software&advancedORbasic=advanced&maxDisplayRows=50&key=&productId=3&gos_vmw_product_release[]=-1&datePosted=-1&os_bits=-1&os_use[]=16&os_name[]=Fedora&rorre=0

SO while it is supported to run a second partition as a guest OS in VMware Workstation and Server, it should still be a supported host or guest OS! you should read the docs before testing
