VMware Workstation unrecoverable error: (vcpu-0) Exception 0xc0000005 (access violation) has occurre

I'm trying to run a VM with windows 7 on my windows 11 home edition on VMWare Workstation Pro 16.2.1 build-1881164216. The system boots, however when the windows logo appears it stops and displays the error msg "VMware Workstation unrecoverable error: (vcpu-0) Exception 0xc0000005 (access violation) has occurred.". I brought this VM from my host with windows 10 pro 21H1, VMWare Workstation Pro 15.0.5 build 14665864 and it works fine. I've tried to install a new windows 7 and a new windows 10 VM but the same error occurs on these new VMs. I have already disabled VBS. I have already reinstalled VMWare. I followed some tutorials in the vmware community. https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/1008485 , https://communities.vmware.com/t5/VMware-Workstation-Player/VMware-Player-unrecoverable-error-vcpu-0... Edited vmx file, etc. But the error persists..

I would bet money you're dealing with the same thing we are.

What kind of CPU do you have in that Windows 11 box?

I have the Samsung Book with I5-1135G7

Thx for the info, i will test using only one processor / core and see if windows vm starts.

-edit-

Works.

1 proc with 1 core = windows starts normally

2 procs w 1 core = error: (vcpu-0)

1 proc w 2 cores = error: (vcpu-0)

2 proc w 2 cores = windows 7 frozen in logo screen, no error, nothing happen (i cant even force a shutdown).

Vmware dev team should fix this bug ASAP.

These days without being able to use vmware I started using the hyper-v from windows 11. And I don't know if I'll go back to using vmware, at least for VMs with ubuntun and windows 10.

I opened hyper-v and installed ubuntu in literally 2 clicks. And I can use windows 10 vm with the same license as windows 11 host.
