VMware Workstation internal monitor error on Fedora 15 x86_64

I'm using VMWare Workstation 7.1.4 on a Dell Latitude E6520 with Fedora 15 x86_64.

Kernel is 2.6.38.7-30.fc15.x86_64.

After booting the system, when I'm trying to start the first VM I'm receiving the following message

I have the same issue on 2 dell 6520's  If I start the windows 7 64bit vm four times it will work every time on the fourth try.

Same issue here.  I just upgraded tp FC15 x86_64 and now Vmware 7 will not work.

FYI: As I bought the WS directly from VMWare, I filled the support request with this issue. The answer (till now) was: go to hell, Fedora 15 is not supported.

This sounds like an NMI watchdog issue.  Try booting your physical host with the following additional parameter (on the kernel line in grub):

nmi_watchdog=0

Solved my problem too.

Interesting thing - I payed $189 and was sent to hell, while the help was free of charge here. Then, what do the people pay money for?

Exactly the same issue with VMware Workstation 7.1 and RHEL 6.1 with all updates as of 10 Sep 2011. I thought RHEL 6 is a supported platform?

The same solution worked for me. What does turning off the watchdog actually do?

I don't think RHEL 6 is supported yet.  Workstation 7.1 introduced support for RHEL 5.5.

The watchdog monitors interrupt activity and reboots the system if it appears to be hung.
