VMware Workstation Professional 16 Browser inside Guest Operating System Error.

I have VMware workstation Pro 16.1.2 build-17966106

The host computer has two drives. C and D and has drives U mounted from a NAS

Inside the VM if I save a file using windows explorer to the C, D or U drive it works fine.

If I attempt to save a file from inside any browser (Firefox, IE, Chrome, Edge) to the C or D drive it works.

If I attempt to save a file form inside any browser to the network U drive I get the message:

You don't have permission to modify files in this network location.

Contact the administrator to make these changes.

What is the difference between saving a file to the U drive in windows explorer from doing it in any browser?

I bought a one time service pack but it keeps refusing to go through.

As you mention saving files to your hosts C:\ or D:\ drive is it safe to assume you are doing this via 'Shared Folders' within the VM? If that's accurate is the NAS U:\ also a Shared Folder? I also assume you're logged in as an Administrator for the file saves via Explorer to the Shared Folders?

Update: Moved likely incorrect thoughts to spoiler tags (why is there no delete button for my post!?) /cry

Spoiler
Assuming I have even that much right (and I admit I don't have actual experience with this and it may be better if you wait to hear from somebody who does) my first thought would be that it's because most browsers these days run (at least parts) in a reduced integrity mode as part of sandboxes [as they are highly targeted for exploits]. If I'm not already off base this would amount to Explorer running as High Integrity but the Browser (or parts at least) running as Medium to Low or an AppContainer in-between in which case I'm already suprised it works for the C or D saves...but could still be relavent if the NAS drive doesn't allow non admins to write to it? Maybe? Just guessing here...

Offhand, maybe it's related to SMB or some such which I cannot help with at all.

Sorry if I wasted your time, just typing what came to my mind...Good Luck!
