VMware Workstation Pro 17 autostart problem...

Just upgraded to Pro 17.  Trying to set VM to autostart, but I get an error:

     "Failed to update AutoStart configuration.

Ensure that vmAutoStart.xml file exists and you have

permissions to write to this file."

So far, I've verified existence of the file, give full permission to everyone for the file and the folder, and tried uninstalling, rebooting, and reinstalling VMware.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,

Jeff Stewart

HI,

Did you set the properties for this file ?

%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\VMware\VMware Workstation\vmAutoStart.xml

I had the same error, giving full right to my user of this file,

solve the problem

Other than permissions, I had to uncomment the tags in vmAutoStart.xml first. Then I was able to edit the autostart settings in the application.

From: <!--e id="0"> ... </e-->

To: <e id="0"> ... </e>

%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\VMware\VMware Workstation\vmAutoStart.xml

Hello,

A bit new to VMware Workstation, i am unable to trace the vmAutoStart.xml, and therefore cannot enable the permissions, any help?

Thanks, in advance.

You can also run VMware Workstation as administrator to make the edits.
