Hi ...
I´ve been trying to run ESXi and Windows 2008 R2 Guest virtual servers in VMware Workstation 7.1 but I got the message:
You have configured this virtual machine to use a 64-bit guest operating system. However, 64-bit operation is not possible. This host is VT-capable, but VT is disabled.
This is usually because VT has been disabled in the BIOS/firmware settings or the host has not been power-cycled since changing this setting. Please:
(1) Verify that the BIOS/firmware settings enable VT and disable 'trusted execution.'
(2) Power-cycle the host, if either of these BIOS/firmware settings have been changed.
(3) Power-cycle the host, if you have not done so since installing VMware Workstation.
(4) Update the host's BIOS/firmware to the latest version.
For more detailed information, see http://vmware.com/info?id=152.
Continue without 64-bit support?
I have an ABIT AB9 Pro with Windows 7 64 bits installed and the VT option is enabled in BIOS.
Any Suggestion ?
Thanks in advanced ...
Hi Neohal,
Not sure that the ABIT AB9 Pro is on the compatibility list... Have a look at this kb for more details. It points to a tool you can use to check that your machine is compatible with 64-bits VMs.
Good luck!
Regards
Franck
Try download the latest bios update then try again as i had the same problem with a host that had an older bios revision

Thanks for your help ...
I supposed the problem was related with BIOS and I tried with two diferents versions. The problems is the same with both BIOS versions.
Is there any configuration issue or any item to force the Workstation 7.1 with 64 bits operating systems ?
have you seen http://communities.vmware.com/docs/DOC-8978
create a new 64 bit VM and launch it - then attach the vmware.log - if you get any - that will help troubleshooting

Ok, finally I found the problem.
It was related to BIOS. Thanks firestartah ... I checked the options in BIOS and I got results disabling C1E option.
Friends, thanks for your help.
Great, glad it helped
I would mark the post as answered though so people know it's obviously been resolved
