VMware Workstation 12.5.2 doesn't install or load Windows 10 1607 Build 14393 when using CPUID Masks

Hello,

Can someone from the VMware Developer Community report this bug so it can get fixed in the next release of Workstation. As of now, all VMware releases including the latest one do not allow the installation of Windows 10 v1607 Build 14393 x86 or x64 (Anniversary Edition) whenever a CPUID mask is included in the vmx configuration file. If the CPUID mask is deleted I can proceed just fine. The same CPUID mask does allow for the installation of Windows 10 v1511 Build 10586 x86 or x64 and other windows operating systems. The bug only affects Windows 10 v1607 Build 14393.

The image below shows the error:

Thanks for the report

Please provide more information on the CPU and the masks used.  The easiest would be to post here (as an attachment, using the Attach button in the lower-right corner when preparing a reply) the vmware.log from the VM's directory after the guest OS is booted without the CPUID mask in place, as well as a copy of the CPUID configuration lines you are trying to use?

Thanks,

This mask whenever put in a vmx configuration file does allow for the installation and operation of any verions of Windows with the exception of Windows 10 v1607 Build 14393.

Could you please provide the vmware.log from inside the virtual machine?  It would include lots of useful information about your host's CPU, host OS configuration and BIOS/EFI configuration which might help us understand what's happening here.

Thanks,
