VMware Fusion 5 Machine Bundle to Workstation 8 VM Machine

Greetings all,

I would like to copy over a VMware Fusion Ver. 5 VM bundle (WinXP) over to my VMware Workstation 8 machine.

I’m going to copy the bundle on my MAC Book Pro to a DVD.

What do I have to do next on the Workstation 8 machine?  First define a VM on WS8 or what?

Any direction here will really be appreciated.

Thanks

First you need to change the Hardware Compatibility so as to run under VMware Workstation 8, so have a look at: Change the Compatibility of a Virtual Machine

After changing the Hardware Compatibility and before you start the Virtual Machine remove any Mirrored Folders and VMware Shared Folders and then start the Virtual Machine and then at the Desktop uninstall VMware Tool, reboot and then once back at the Desktop shutdown, not suspend the Virtual Machine.

Open the Virtual Machine Package and delete the Applications and appListCache folders from within the Virtual Machine Package.

Now it is ready for transport by whichever means you choose.

Copy it to the system running VMware Workstation 8 and start the Virtual Machine and once at the Desktop install VMware Tools.
