VMnet1 & VMnet8 Adapters Needed??

Hello,

I recently installed VM_Wkstn8 and created two virtual machines. Two virtual adapters VMnet1 & VMnet8 were installed on the host. Digging in I thought that these were virtual adapters that routed between the host adapter and the VM's. So I disabled them as an experiment and.....nothing changed. The virtual machines STILL have network connectivity, still get a DHCP assigned address, and still can communicate across the network...So what am I missing?? Are these adaptetrs not needed? Then why install them?

Any information of tech docs greatly appreciated.

JB

They are needed if you specify NAT or Host-Only network connection type for your VMs.  If you only want Bridged connection type, then no, you won't need these.

Hello David,

Thanks for posting and sorry to hear you have a problem with WS 8.

To speed-up investigation, could you please:

1. Give us more info regarding Host config -OS, CPU, RAM, etc

2. Check 'Network adapter' setting for yours VM:

IF it set to "Bridged", disabling virtual adapters VMnet1 & VMnet8 not affecting yours VM Network connectivity.

3. How do you "disabled them" -- from Host networking OR using Virtual Network Editor UI?
