VMWare workstation Pro 16 License

I need to decommission a PC running a licensed version of Workstation Pro.  This host is host to mission critical software, so I don't want to do anything that will interrupt production.  Therefore I wanted to ask before acting.

I can see the registration key in Help > About VMWare Workstation.  One would assume that it's just matter of installing Workstation Pro 16 on a new host physical machine and entering in the registration key.  My first question is, is that an accurate assumption?

My second question is, will doing so cause the old host to stop working?  I would like to test before going live.  I can ill afford to have the old host go offline before we're ready.

All assistance will be appreciated.

Yes, that is an accurate assumption.

No, there is no phone-home licensing - just legal recordkeeping.  So, activating a new host will not deactivate the old one.

Note that on the Workstation downloads page, there is a combo box to select the major version - defaulted to the latest (currently 17).  Select version 16 in your case before proceeding.  That will take you to the downloads page for ver 16.  On there is also a combo box to select the minor version - defaulted to the latest (currently 16.2.5).  If you want an earlier version, just select it before proceeding.
