VMWare Workstation Pro 15 Cannot power on VM - the file specified is not a virtual disk

Can anyone tell me why this vmdk is not seen as a virtual disk. I cannot see anything wrong with the vmx or the vmdk files.

All the sparse vmdk files are there and all have data in them. Was working OK around 2 years ago. I'm baffled.

Hi,

In addition to the files you have published, which are useful, you can provide us with further information:

1- What extensions have the files in the virtual machine folder?

2- What is the procedure you have performed?

3- Have you tried to create a new virtual machine and then to hook the vmdk file of this Windows 7 virtual machine?

4- Have you tried to run the same version of Workstation that has worked in past years?

5- Have you tried with vCenter Converter to recreate the virtual machine directly on Workstation 15

Thank you.

Do you have an option to inspect the slices of the vmdk with a hexeditor ?

Maybe one of the slices does not have the expected magic number in the header ?

Do you store the vmdk in a compressed NTFS partition ?

Do you need support with a VMFS recovery problem ? - send a message via skype "sanbarrow"
I do not support Workstation 16 at this time ...
