VMWare Workstation 17 next release Workstation 2023?

Last update was in April.   It is now August.   No updates.   And I can only guess as to how many issues are open.

I really like this software.    It is too bad it is dying.

There's a current Tech Preview for an upcoming release: https://communities.vmware.com/t5/Workstation-2023-Tech-Preview/ct-p/ws-tp2023

Thank you for your response.    My fault.   I was thinking version 18 was next.    New naming convention - year.

I look forward to its release.

I expect the current Tech Preview will become v18, that’s what happened last year when the Tech Preview at the time became v17.

Or not.

VMware has hinted that the next release fo Fusion on the Mac may be a minor release to Fusion 13. If that’s true, then I wouldn’t be surprised if  Workstation would follow suit if past versioning is any indication of the future. They tend to manage versions of Fusion and Workstation similarly.

I guess we’ll wait and see if @Mikero chimes in.

Does that mean we have to buy a new license? The current works with tech preview.  If that the case my boss gonna hate it 😞

This is speculation but If they make the next version a minor version update to 17 and not a new major version 18, it’s likely not to require a new license. But only VMware knows for sure and until they say something, this is not a anything that I would get my boss agitated about until I knew for sure.

It could be worse. You could be paying a subscription that if you stop paying, your VMs turn into pumpkins.
