VMWare Workstation 15.5.7: Device Guard Problem after Windows Defender Update?

Hi

We have an issue that VMs in VMWare Workstation Pro 15.5.7 are not bootable with the following message:

Your host does not meet minimum requirements to run VMWare workstation with Hyper-V or Device/Credential Guard enabled. Refer to VMWare KB article 76918 [...]

  • No Hyper-V is installed
  • "bcdedit /set hypervisorlaunchtype off" is configured
  • Windows 10 1909 (Build 18363.1256)
  • VMWare Workstation 15.5.7
  • Windows Defender 1.329.2123.0

It seems to be a problem with the latest Windows Defender Update. The Problem exists since 1-2 days.

Workaround:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\DeviceGuard\EnableVirtualizationBasedSecurity = 0
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\LsaCfgFlags = 0
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\DeviceGuard\Scenarios\HypervisorEnforcedCodeIntegrity = 0

You also have to disable Memory integrity in Windows Settings and reboot.

Any other with this issue?

So it was not the Windows Defender. Problem originated from a third party tool.
