I have tried too many games and programs to list using every guest OS starting from Windows 95 on up to Windows 10, all with the same results. Whenever I switch over to full screen I get this error "restore directdraw () - dderr_wrongmode - the surface can not be retrieved because it was rendered in a different mode." I will list my pc specs below. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
PC Specs:
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4460 CPU @ 3.20GHz
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GT 720
RAM: 8.0 GB
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (build 17134), 64-bit
Your system has both Intel HD4600 (assuming it is enabled) and Nvidia GT 720.
Have a look at this thread Re: Make VMWare Workstation use my Nvidia card?
TLDR:
Shut down the VM and add the following line to the vmx configuration file to make sure that the Nvidia graphics card is used.
mks.dx11.vendorID = "0x10de"
You can run the applications on the non-fullscreen mode, right?
Would you please check your virutal video memory from settings --> display and also the status of "Accelerate 3D graphics" ?
Thank you for your help guys, but i figured out an easy solution. All I needed was set VMware to "Stretch" before switching to full screen. And now it works perfectly.
