VMWare Workstation 10 - slow load before "boot" starts

Hello,

I upgraded from v8 to v9 and then v10.0.1. Every time the loading time of virtual machine is slower.

From 15sec in v8 it goes to 50sec in v10. Smiley Sad

So it is normal? the longest time is a black screen even before a boot or starting process of virtual OS begins.

During than "before" booting time CPU goes up (1 core goes to 100%), but HDD is fine.

No, I won't try to fix DOS. The problem occurred before POST. DOS didn't start until after POST. The log file indicated the problem was to do with VMware authorization stuff. Maybe it looked at my 7-8 years old BIOS date and and decided I was not authorized until I spend money for something newer. I won't spend the money either. I see no reason to spend on someone's arbitrary whim. I'll go look for a different kind of VM or dispense with VM altogether.

Ok, I have quickly found the solution. Installed Oracle's VirtualBox. DOS started up in 7 seconds including POST. Now if they support Directx3D like they say they do, then they have satisfied all my VM requirements in a jiffy.

I have 32-bit Windows 7 SP1 as my host machine, and I do not have .NET Framework 4.0 or newer installed.

If somebody has similar "delaying" problem on 64-bit Windows 7 or newer please report.

As far as I found the problem is IOPS. More here - http://storageioblog.com/part-ii-iops-hdd-hhdd-ssd/

Is there some utility which can measure this "IOSP"? So that we can compare our values...?

My suggestion is to use 64-bit host operating system if possible.

Hi everyone,
I solved the problem by reinstalling version 7.
As I work mainly with linux virtual machine, it suits me perfectly.

I'm having the same issue and a lot of others do. It looks like this isn't solved for years.

And it's clearly not realted to VMs at all because even with an empty VM the same bug occurs....

One thing perhaps, my machine is 32-bit.

I have a same issue with a XP Virtual Machine and Fusion 6&7. I have unchecked under VM preferences (USB & Bluetooth) the option Share Bluetooth devices with Windows.

I hope this helps.

I too am now having this issue. I've used VMWare for 2 years on my current laptop without this particular issue.

My laptop has 32GB memory and SSD and quad Core-i7 extreme so VMWare usually starts up very fast.

Since upgrading to 10.0.4 build 2249910 however it can take literally 20 minutes to even reach POST.

The host is 64 bit linux and again this has never happened until recent upgrade.
