VMWare Performance

Ok, I am new to VMWare, so this may be a "newb" question.

I have a QuadCore 3.0Ghz 8MB Ram on Windows XP.

I am running VMWare Server Console.

I have 4 VMs, each with 1024MB each.

If i try to start all 4 VMs the box basically come to a screeching halt.

It does respond... but it may take 5-10minutes to click on something, etc.

Is there something I may be missing??

If I were to hazard some guesses... And BTW this is a Workstation forum, not Virtual Server

XP 32-bit probably supports only 4gb. Don't remember whether XP 64-bit supports more RAM, but is unlikely. This should be verified. if you're running VMware Server, it definitely is limited to 4GB total.

If you're starting all nearly simultaneously, besides massive re-allocation of memory resources you're definitely thrashing your hard drive.

Probable solutions are to back off on your VM memory allocation and start them one at a time.
