VMWare 7.1.5 and Ubuntu 11.10 x64

Hi. I've downloaded the trial version of VMWare 7.1.5 for Linux and tried installing it in Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot (64-bit). Install ran just fine, but when I started the program it failed compiling or building kernel modules. Here's the log: http://paste.ubuntu.com/809532/. Some help would be appreciated.

Hi,

Vmware 7.1 is not compatible with the kernel shipped with 11.10. You need to patch some of the vmware module sources to get it to compile on that kernel. Have a look at:

http://reformedmusings.wordpress.com/2011/10/15/fixing-vmware-workstation-7-14-and-7-15-in-ubuntu-11...

and/or

http://weltall.heliohost.org/wordpress/2011/08/10/vmware-workstation-7-1-4-fix-for-linux-3-1/

Or use WS 8.0.1, which will work out of the box.

Regards,

Mark.

Hi,

Yes IT wont work with Vmware 7.15. I have successfully installed Ubuntu 11.04 (Natty Narwhal) on work station 8 and successfully running .

So i will preffer you to upgrade your work station to 8.
