VM disk space too large and fails to clone

Hi,

I am fairly new to using VMWare. I have been using Workstation Pro 16.2.5. I did not originally realize that snapshots were not meant to be kept long term and were slowing down the performance. I deleted each individual snapshot from the manager (I kept getting an error that along the lines of "consolidating failed: Read beyond end of object" each time I would delete a snapshot (It still disappeared from my snapshot manager so I assumed the snapshot was gone). My Virtual Machine folder size is about 272GB and the VM I am using is only 100GB. I have 79 different numbered .vmdk files which leads me to believe my vmdk file is corrupt and snapshots were not actually deleting.

I have tried various methods such as deleting the VMSD file and creating a new snapshot but it did not help.

I have tried a full clone as well but I get  "Cloning failed: Read beyond end of object".

I have also tried defrag and disk cleanup but it did not do anything.

Is there any other way to reduce the size of the folder? Can I force a clone another way?
