VM WorkStation 7.0.0 build-203739/Cannot get WinXP Machine Name recognized on Network

Hello,

Just started using VM Workstation and after 1 day the netowrk will not find the machine name. I have went into the windows xps virtual machines and did ipconfig /registerdns command and still to no avail. I can see the ip address of the machine on the network and can RDP into them using the IP address. The other virtual machines I have are Vista and Windows 7, after 1 day, I can use the machine name to RDP into them.

Host Machine is Windows 7 64bit.

Virtual Machines: 2 WinXP 2 Vista and 1 Win7.

Any suggestions on how i can get these WinXP machines to get recogized on the network? I would rather not use the IP addresses if possible.

Thanks!

Welcome to the forums!

1. Which networking do you use (bridged, NAT or host-only)?

2. Which name you're after? DNS or WINS?

3. Have you checked if the DNS registration was successful (event log, DNS server, nslookup)?

4. Is the guest member of a domain? Depending on the DNS server setting it must be member of a domain to be able to register.
