Using physical hardware and drivers in virtual environments

Host = Win7Ux64

Virtual = WinXP Pro x86

I have a certain soundcard that I'd like to use in the virtual environment.  VMWare appears to install its own generic drivers for it and the actual driver can't be installed because it doesn't recognize the hardware/virtualware.

Is there a way to allow the virtual environment to see and utilize my physical hardware just as the host does?

Yes - use an external USB-soundcard. Thats the only way
