Using a physical disk?

Hello,

I was able to do this in a previous version of Ubuntu but I'm unable to make it work now.

Comptuer Details:

Ubuntu11.04 running VMware Workstation 7.1.4

The VMs all run fine (as expected). But when I try to add a physical disk to my VM, i get a permission denied. In this case the disk is /dev/sdb (or partition is /dev/sdb1).

The manual clearly says to "add the user to the local group disk". That's easy enough but it doesn't seem to work after I do that.

When i run vmware from the shell as root, it works without issue (I'm able to add teh physical disk to the VM).

Anyone else run into this? I feel like it's a simple issue I'm missing. Any suggestions are great.

Mike
