Upload greyed out

I have recently installed workstation 8 and am trying to upload a vm from workstation 8 to ESXi 4.1 Update 1

however the drag and drop remains a red circle with a line thru it

I am not powered on or suspended

I am not encrypted

I am licensed

am I missing some configuration issue or network issue?

I cannect to my esxi host fine

as well as connect to my Vcenter server

just can't upload

it remains greyed out under the VM - Manager tab

has anyone run into this and resolved it

Hmmm... what version is the virtual machine?  I'd expect that it would have to be, at highest, Workstation 7 compatible - in order for ESX(i) 4 to recognize it.

I downloaded the ovf file for the VMA which is 4.1 and imported it into workstation 8
