Upgrading windows 10 VM from 15 to 16.1 but getting "inaccessible boot device"

Hey All,

I've been trying to update one of my most used Windows 10 VM's to the latest version but it wont boot. It attempts to boot, I see the usual spinning windows circle but then I get a big failure screen, first the message is 'Inacessible Boot Device' and then changers over to the Recovery screen with the error code 0xc000000f. Does anyone have any ideas?

Do you have a backup of the VM?

Did you take a snapshot of the VM before you started?

Have you tried any of the Windows recovery processes? (The same as you would on a physical system)

I do have a backup of the VM so i'm okay there, i did have a snapshot, maybe ill try cleaning that up and trying again, if no go ill try a normal windows recovery repair and see if that does the trick
