Upgrade windows 7 to 8.1

i'm trying to upgrade Windows 7 to 8.1 on workstation with Windows 8.1 ISO DVD. I can't read the DVD on the VM running windows 7, the files that the DVD displays are WIN 7 installation files. Please help!!!!

Welcome to the Community,

there are sometimes issues reading CDs/DVDs at all (usually with physical media), but I never saw wrong files being displayed. Please double-check that the ISO is the correct one, i.e. contains the Windows 8.1 binaries using e.g. 7zip, or another application which can read ISO images.
