Upgrade option for Workstation Pro 16 to 17 ?

I was just wondering if there is an upgrade option from Workstation Pro 16.2.4 to Workstation Pro 17 at a cheaper price than buying the latest version only. I'm not sure what my options are here, but it seems strange to ask your clientele to change the software instead of upgrading the version. I hope someone has something to add. Cheers.

Yours truly,

Not sure what you are looking for, seems like a  $100 difference to upgrade from 15/16 versus purchase.

Yeah, fair comment. But I suppose my point is that I have already purchased 16.2.4. What's so great about Workstation Pro 17 that it requires the extra cash for the upgrade? There is always the option of purchasing a VMUG membership for a bit extra and having access to ESXi, vSphere, and Tanzu, etc.

Good question. I think most of us ask that question. I look in the release notes before upgrading a free point upgrade as well as a purchase upgrade. Does it do something I can't do now? We run ESXi and are looking at the upgrade from 7 to 8. Even though it is (sort of) free, we will wait for a point update. Same for WS 17.

16.2.5 is out now and is fixing some of the problems that (mostly Windows host users) have with 16.2.4.

Sooner or later the current version won't support some new gee-whiz thing and the decision will arise again. Microsoft is good at that. I am still running a system with WS 15. I maintain 2 licenses and have one current and one back level. So, if I find it necessary, I will upgrade the V15 license. My business pays for it.

VMware wants/needs sales to keep going. If that is not acceptable to me, I will pursue open source.  One wonders how profitable the Workstation version is versus all the cloud stuff.

Update Edit:  I purchased (for 100 USD) and downloaded WS-17 and ran the installer bundle (I'm on Pop!_OS) and just like that and Bob's your Uncle it uninstalled WS-16.2.5 and installed WS-17.

Took less than 5 minutes and I'm back up and running!  Thanks VMware Dev's

I was wondering this exact same thing.

Unfortunately I have not found an answer.

It appears that there is no up-gradable path from WS-16 to WS-17

(FWIW I'm running WS on Linux)

I'm always a sucker for the latest and greatest version, so I'll uninstall WS-16 and install WS-17

A discount of the purchase price would be nice tho.
