I just updated VMware workstation to 9.0.1 with a Win 8 x64 Pro host and guest. When I tried to update tools on the guest, shortly after the install the screen went black. I had to uninstall tools, and reinstall it in custom mode. When I disabled "SVGA Driver", Tools was able to install.
Chances are others will see this problem.
