I'm using VMware Workstation 7.1 on Windows Server 2008 R2. When using the Applications Menu in Unity mode, said menu will steal the focus just by hovering the start button (that triggers the appearance of the Applications Menu). I find myself frequently typing nowhere because the mouse cursor accidentally rolled over the start menu and my working window lost focus. This behavior basically renders the Unity mode almost unusable.
¿Is there any way of preventing this? For reference, my guest OS is Arch Linux.
Have you turned off the "Ungrab when cursor leaves window" checkbox in the VM Workstation Preferences (Edit > Preferences > 'Input' tab)?
I tried that but no success. The problem is that focus is stolen from
host (and guest) windows, not that guest windows lose focus when the
cursor leaves them. Anyway, I tried all the other options in the Input
tab and found nothing.
It looks like this menu doesn't act as a passive mouseover event but
actually spawns a little window that captures focus like any other
window. The funny part being that in fact when spawning a guest window
you have to force (by keypress or mouse) the focus because it starts
without it.
Maybe this can't be solved by tweaking options. In that case I'll try
to file a bug somewhere. Thank you anyway.
Sounds like a bug. We'll look into it.
