do you have systemroot\system32\drivers\vmx86.sys ?

can you start the driver by using this command in a cmd ?

net start vmx86

Thanks For your reply !!

VMX86.sys file present on the Windows-Drivers Folder..

I have trying to start with Net Start Command but it's give me error "The Service name is invalid". Can you just let me know for any alternet way for troubleshooting.

Thanks in Advance.

try to re-install the vmx86 driver

open a cmd and navigate to the VMware installation directory and run

 vnetlib -- uninstall vmx86

reboot

check again with the net start command - this time it should say "service name is invalid"

then run

 vnetlib -- install vmx86

and reboot again

now it hopefully works

I know it's been a while since the last post, but I have a similar problem and couldn't find a solution yet.

When I try to open my *.vmx-file with VMWare Workstation I get the same error. I already tried what you suggested, but it didn't help. Are there any further instructions or hints you could give me?

Btw, I use a VMWare Workstation 7.1.3 on WinXP (and the VM was converted from *.ova to *.vmx with OVF Tool).

Can you try to create a new VM and start that one ?

If the command

net start vmx86

fails and complains that there is no service like that installed your installation went bad.
Try to repair it using the installer.

I hope I do not need to mention that you should run the installer with a local admin account using "run as admin".

Nevermind. I just reinstalled the whole Workstation and now it works. I wonder what went wrong before, since it was freshly installed on the computer and I got no error after the first installation.

Anyways, thanks for your help!

I have exactly same issue.  I start CMD as administrator then run  "net start vmx86".  Problem is solved,@ thank you.

I had the same issue. I figured out that "VMware Authorization Service" was stopped on windows services. I started it and it worked.
