What could be causing the issue of not being able to obtain an address via DHCP when using Wifi in VMware workstation pro 17, while it works fine when connected to a network cable?
I have tried different options in the "bridged" type (below) and removed any irrelevant network cards but to no avail.
Can anyone offer any suggestions to resolve this problem?
Also, I would greatly appreciate guidance on how to debug this issue. Thank you for your time and assistance.
I suspect it's the "auto-bridging" option? It might be picking the wired ethernet network adaptor. You can edit the settings and force it to use the Wi-Fi network adapter.
I appreciate the suggestion, but unfortunately, it didn't work for me.
any other ideas?
It could depend on the WiFi router/infrastructure that the host is connected to.
If the WiFi router is yours at home, you might want to check your settings like having a whitelist of MAC address(es).
Most public WiFi (such as in hotels, airport lounges) would require some sort of password to enter and the VMware won't be able to respond to that. For some corporate networks, a certificate is installed on the physical machine OS as a form of authentication. So it might be failing authentication to be able to obtain an IP address on WiFi.
Would suggest use NAT instead if using WiFi network such as a hotel. But for corporate network, it is best to talk the IT support as you will also implicitly get approval to connect the VM to the network (whether it is your employer or customer).
