Hello all!
I've solved the issue by using the command:

chmod a=rwx vmware

This solved the problem.

Is user joao allowed to read and modify the vmsd-file ?
Did this work with 16.1 before ?

Hi Ulli!

So... I don't know if the user joao has the right permissions. Actually, I'm not so used to use linux as OS to do such things, but I'll do a research here on how to give full permissions to the specific user to this file and then keep you updated!

Regargind to the version, I don't know, because I've just installed the latest version of VMware Workstation Pro on this Ubuntu notebook.

I highly recommend to follow this forum for at least a month before you install current version.
Personally I would no longer even consider to install latest WS on latest Ubuntu - I changed to Debian10 and WS 14
