Unable to connect usb to ideal location

Host=Win 7 HomePremium

Guest=Win 7 HomePremium

VM Workstation=8.0.3 build-703057

OK, I use my VM for development, and I have a USB drive which I use to real-time mirror changes. The computer has 4 USB ports, 3x2.0 and 1x3.0.

The usb drive has been plugged into one of the 2.0 ports for some time, all working ok.

A week or two ago I got a message that it could not be connected to its ideal location, but I clicked ok and Windows said the driver failed and should be replaced. It works fine from the Host. I tried a few things, then copied a backup vm from a few weeks ago, restored all my code and all was well.

Yesterday it has happened again, although this time when I moved it to another usb 2.0 it worked, but no longer auto connects when VM starts.

The only thing I can think of is I did backups yesterday and had some other usb drives connected, at one stage to the Host, and later to the Guest.

Any clues as to what I can do, where to start looking?

Thanks

Ken

I did do a search before posting, other people have had this problem, but I could not find a solution - anyone?
