Hi Everyone,
I seem to have a common problem. When trying to boot a VM I get:
No bootable CD, floppy or hard disk was detected. To install an operating system, insert a bootable CD or floppy and restart the virtual machine by clicking the Reset button.
This happens with Windows XP and W2K Advanced Server. These are the only 2 I have tried.
To remedy this I have:
1. Checked the Power on Settings
2. Checked the connection box
3. Tried Manually specifying drives
4. Tried other IDE connections
5. Tried an ISO (SAME ISSUE!!)
6. Set the Boot sequence so that CD comes before HDD.
7. Tried another CD/DVD Drive
Is there anything else to try?
Thanks in advance
What is your host OS?
What exact version of VMware Workstation?
5.5.3 Build 34685
Host - Windows XP
This problem is apparently cross platform since I am having the exact same problem on an OS 10.4.9 Macbook Pro. I cannot create a VM because VMWare won't boot from either an ISO image nor from a physical DVD. I am running VMWare Version 1.0b2 on the Mac.
Hi macguy918 ,
You would have better luck posting your issue in the Mac beta forum.

There are no known issues installing from CD or an ISO image. so the issue must be unique to your environment/configuration
