ok i have Windows XP as the host operating system
have installed Ubuntu as guest...
have also installed VMWare tools for ubuntu.
The network isnt working.
Have tried bridge and NAT still nothing.
whats the problem ? and how should i proceed
Please post the guests .vmx file and a "lspci" and "lsmod" from the guest.
AWo
Workstation version?
ipconfig /all from the host?
vmx file contents?
ifconfig -a from the guest?
If troubleshooting a network issue, please include the additional information.
1) Post the output from " ipconfig /all " (Windows) or " ifconfig -a " (Linux)
from both the host and guest OS
2) Post the .vmx file from the virtual machine.
3) Details of how your host is connected to the local network / Internet (Cable Modem, DSL, Router, Switch, Wired, Wireless...etc)
hey.. ok i sorted the problem and i am able to access the connection.
the problem was really silly, i had my host computer and the guest computer ( Ubuntu ) named with the same host name. so once i changed that i could access the network.
THANKS A LOT for all your answers. appreciate it.
there one small problem though.
i have a firewall on my host computer ( Windows XP ) . I am using Outpost. Now when i disable the firewall the connection works. but i when i enable it, the connection doesnt work.
i have allowed connection for the following processes
vmware-vmx.exe
vmserverdwin32.exe
vmware-authd.exe
vmware.exe
also it would help if anyone could tell me what connections should be allowed ( if anything in particular )
This is the network:
VM( ubuntu ) >> VMWARE SERVER >> Windows XP ( with firewall Outpost ) >> ROUTER >> Internet.
