Ubuntu guest has no network connection when using NAT

Hello

I have a Windows 7 x64 host (have also tried with Vista and have the same problem) with WS 6.5.2 build 156735. I have an Ubuntu 9.04 guest running. If I set the networking to bridged I can see the host and see the internet (browse to and traceroute google.com). If I set the networking to NAT, I have no network connection at all. I have fiddled with some of the options but I cant get it to work at all.

Can anyone help ?

Thanks

Dave

Please set it to NAT and check that the VMware DHCP server and NAT services are running.

Post "ifconfig -a" from the guest and "ipconfig /all" from the host.

Disable IPv6 on the host.

Disable the wireless and try only with the cabled NIC.

What is the default gateway and DNS server while using NAT in the guest? They should be the host VMnet8 adapter IP +1 (192.168.110.2)

Hi

I have disabled IPv6 - no change.

I have set default gateway in /etc/networks/interfaces to 192.168.110.2 and rebooted. I can nslookup to microsoft.com and google.com and get a response (its going via the new default gateway) but web browsing still doesnt work.

DNS server set to 192.168.110.2.

I have just installed a new Win2k8 VM and it does the same thing. A Vista VM I copied from another computer doesnt, that has network connection.

Havent tried the cable yet, have to find one....

If nslookup works communication is possible in general.

When the browsing does not work which error message do you receive in the browser?

Do you use a proxy in your browser setup?
