Ubuntu 10.04 errors

I installed VMware Workstation 7.0.1 build 227600 on my Ubuntu 10.04 x64 (Release Canidate" workstation and everything worked great. I installed my OS (Windows XP Pro) and apps and everything worked. Now, I restarted my computer and cannot launch the XP Workstation. VMware Workstation launches, but once I try and launch my VM I get the following errors.

"Could not open /dev/vmmon: No such file or directory. Please make sure that the kernel module 'vmmon' is loaded."

And after hitting OK I get

"Failed to initialize monitor device."

Then after hitting OK again I get

"Unable to change virtual machine power state: Cannot find a valid peer process to connect to"

Any help would be great.

Thanks,

Ubuntu 10.04 64 bit

vmware player 3.0.1

I think I started experiencing this issue after installing the latest kernel

any ideas ?

Hi,

I had the same problem (after I installed a bunch of software packages).

It turns out that the kvm virtual machine was installed (package qemu-kvm) :

lsmod | grep vm

vmnet 44131 3

vmci 55005 1 vsock

vmmon 74842 0

kvm_intel 46296 0

Once i removed the qemu-kvm package I was able to power on the machines.

Regards

Afifi I had the same problem try inputting either one of these lines in the terminal:-

sudo /etc/init.d/vmware start

or

sudo /etc/init.d/vmware restart

Hope this helps!

Try Workstation 7.1 (works flawlessly for me on an Ubuntu 10.04 host)
