Trying to make a virtual machine from my physical computer

Hi,

I was trying to turn my laptop into a virtual machine using the import/export wizard. When I attempt to create the vmachine it makes it to step 2 and I get an error causing the creation to fail. The error I get is ERROR: VMware Converter Agent System Error. What can I do to fix this or should I be going at this another way?

Welcome to the Community,

what is to OS on your Laptop and which OS is installed on the system running VMware Workstation. Depending on the Laptop OS (e.g. Windows 7) you may need to use VMware Converter 4.3 to P2V the Laptop. Also don't forget licensing. If it is Windows, you may need a separate license for the virtual machine!

I highly recommend Paragon's go-virtual product (it's free).

You may have some issues with some OEM copies of WIndows.

The Paragon worked well for me too. Then you have to deal with the liscence issue.
