Transferring VMWare Workstation License from Windows to Linux?

Hello VMWare-Friends,

I have a question regarding licences, and wasn't able to find the information on the homepage. Maybe searched in the wrong place, anyway I was out of luck. I bought VMWare Workstation 5 a while ago (for windows), and I am now planning to leave towards Ubuntu Linux. I set up a sandbox Linux und tried to get the necessary things running, and was suprised VmWare didnt accept my Licence Key.

Is there any way to port this licence to Linux? VMWare was quite expensive.

unfortunately, this is not possible.

you may ask your vmware sales rep. for this, but don´t expect that you get your license changed.

really wondering, that this is not possible in general since it has been requested so many times.
