Too many Virtual Machine files on Workstation 12

So I have a Windows 7 64bit VM and when I looked at the folder there are so many VMDK files.  I had allocated 100gb maximum hard disk size.  I've no where near filled that up on the VM itself but when I look at the folder that has stores my VM files the size is 123gb.  What are these excess files and can I get rid of them? I attached a pic so you could see what I see.  In the VM it shows I've used 30.7gb of the 99.9gb of space.

You created 3 snapshots - thats why there are so many files.
The 3 snapshots and the base-disk are split up into several slices because this format is significantly safer than the one-piece format.
