Time Sync Between Host and Guest OS

I'm running Workstation 6.0 under Windows XP, and we're running Fedora Core 3 as the guest OS. I'm connected to a GPS on the XP side and we're syncing the XP clock using the PPS (so it's very accurate).

I want to accurately (with in a few single milliseconds) sync the guest OS clock (Linux) to the XP host OS time.

We tried running an NTP server on the XP host and forced a sync (using ntpdate) once per second from the Linux side. However, I see drifts and large (sometimes greater than 1 sec) adjustments. This method has worked for us using a native Linux OS and given us the desired resolution.

The Linux VMware tools haven been installed.

I've got the clock=pit argument set and using the VMware auto sync mechanism hasn't really worked for us.

We're running on laptops and all power management tools have been disabled.

Has anyone had any luck getting clocks tightly synchronized?

Thanks,

Mark

I'm having a similar problem... using workstation 6.0 and a windows XP host... i'm using a Mandriva linux guest though.

I read that most of the features of VMware tools worked really well in workstation 5.5, and i know they had some problems in the workstation 6.0 BETA.

perhaps not all the bugs have been properly fixed?
