The parent virtual disk has been modified since the child was created

Hello,
I am running VMware® Workstation 16 Pro 16.2.2 build-19200509.
I have a Windows XP virtual machine that has been running fine for several years. I noticed today that I had 2 snapshots that had been there since 2019 so to save on a bit of bit disk space I deleted them both using Snapshot Manager. When I then restarted my Vrtual Machine the XP splash displays and then I hear the sound of XP starting up but the screen stayed black. As my VM's are stored in Dropbox, I decided to use the "rewind" feature to take my VM back to how it was before I deleted the snap shots. The problem now is when I try and start the VM I get an error "Parent virtual disk has been modified since the child was created".

I've come across several posts on this issue, but I'm really still not sure how to solve it. Any help much appreciated.

Thank you.

Virtual disks with snapshots work as chained files, where a snapshot contains data blocks that differ from its parent(s). To ensure that this chain is valid, the files contain IDs (CID, parentCID) which are checked before accessing the virtual disk. In case of a mismatch, the error that you see is displayed to avoid further corruption.

What (which files) did you restore from your Dropbox?

André
