The file specified is not a virtual disk

Hello. Yesterday I installed Windows 10 from USB onto my virtual machine computer which had win7 before. After i succsessfully installed the new OS I disconnected the USB from the computer and now whenever i try to boot my VM i get this following error:

The file specified is not a virtual disk

Cannot open the disk 'C:\Users\***\Documents\Virtual Machines\Windows 7\Windows 10.vmdk' or one of the snapshot disks it depends on.

Module DiskEarly power on failed.

Failed to start the virtual machine.

So is there anyway that i cant boot my VM again without the USB?

Thanks.

Hello,

First thing to do is to go to the location where your .vmdk files are stored for that VM and check you don't have any of the following files/folders there:

.vmem file, this contains a backup of the VMs guest main memory and should only exist when the VM is running.

.lck folders, these are locks which are created on vmdks when the VM is running and again shouldn't be there when the VM is powered down.

If you do have any of these when your vm is powered down, delete them and try again.

Let me know how that goes!
