Test Lab

I am using workstation 8. I would like to setup a lab that has a virtual domain. This will consist of one domain controller, one server and one or two workstations.  I did some research and could only fin a referral to team which seems to be for an earlier product than workstation 8.1. Any help woul d be appreciated.

Afaik the team functionality has been removed from WS 8.

I also do have a setup like the one you are trying to run. You can do this easily without teams. Depending on your needs regarding e.g. web access you can use either host-only or NAT for the setup. In case of NAT, you need to make sure the domain members are configured to use the DHCP/DNS of the domain controller (i.e. disable DHCP on the virtual NAT vmnet) and the domain controller forwards DNS requests to e.g. your Internet router.

Andre,

Thanks for your quick response. Unfortunately I do not understand your instructions and it would be helpful if it was more detailed. At present I have these two servers. DC1 is my domain controller and when I try adding the SCCM1 server to domain it does not fine the domain controller DC1.

From the Gateway addresses it looks like you configured the VM's to use NAT!?

One way to set this up is:

On the DC:

1.) Configure fixed IP settings, e.g.

IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.159.10

Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0

Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.159.2

DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.159.10

2.) Configure the DHCP server, e.g.

IP Range: 192.168.159.50 ... 192.168.159.100

DNS Server: 192.168.159.10

Default Gateway: 192.168.159.2

3.) Configure the DNS server to forward any requests unrelated to the own domain to 192.168.159.2

In the Virtual Network Editor:

1.) Disable DHCP for the NAT network (vmnet8)

With this setup any VM in the vmnet8 (NAT) network will receive its IP address from the DC's DHCP server.

Unfortuntely your suggestions do not work. After I setup my other server SCCM1 pull a 169 address.

Please double check the DHCP configuration on the DC. Make sure the appropriate IP scope exists and the DHCP server is authorized.
