Suggestion: One more level in "Select a Guest Operating System" during creation of new VM

Currently, when we're creating a new VM, one of the dialogs is "Select a Guest Operating System". As of WorkStation 6.5, every "Version" list for Windows and Linux is very long. For example:

  • Windows: 21 items

  • Linux: 33 items

It would be nice if a sub-version (ie Edition) sub-list is used. That could help choosing O/S easily. Concretely, eg, for Windows, I would like to see a "Version" list containing only:

  • Windows 3.1

  • Windows 95

  • Windows 98

  • ...

  • Windows XP

  • Windows Vista

  • Windows Server 2003

  • Windows Server 2008

And when one chooses Windows Server 2003, he's presented a sub-list of:

  • Web Edition

  • Standard Edition

  • ...

  • Enterprise x64 Edition

This would be quite neat.

Hi,

Good idea.

I agree that this would be a UI improvement over the current long list.
